Alan Young (1919-2016)

In a year that has seen the world lose many of it's most beloved celebrities, the world of animation and acting has lost another legend. Alan Young, an actor who appeared both on camera and as a voice talent for well over fifty years, passed away on May 19th 2016. He was best known to Disney fans as the voice of Uncle Scrooge, originally in Mickey's Christmas Carol and then later in the much loved DuckTales series. Young even reprised the role much more recently, appearing in videogames such as DuckTales Remastered and Kingdom Hearts. As recently as this year, he voiced Scrooge in two of the recent Mickey Mouse shorts.


First breaking through onscreen in the role of Wilbur in the talking horse series Mister Ed, he went on to appear both in live-action and animation for decades, with a long list of animation credits including The Smurfs, Battle Of The Planets, Scooby Doo and Ren and Stimpy.

Born in the North of England before moving to Scotland and later Canada, Young's portrayal of the Millionaire Duck is iconic and is intricately linked to the character. DuckTales is coming back to our screens in 2017, but to those who grew up on the original, without Mr. Young, it just won't be the same somehow.  He'll be missed by millions for sure, and our thoughts are with his family and friends at this difficult time.
