Kickstart This: 'Neon' by Savlonic
Animated or virtual bands have a long tradition stretching back to Alvin and The Chipmunks and The Archies, and right up to Damon Albarn and Jamie Hewlett's Gorillaz. Savlonic are a virtual band that sprang out of online animation powerhouse Weebl's Stuff, and featuring Mr Weebl himself- real name Jonti Picking.
Music has been a big part of Weebl's animations throughout his career, with hits like Badgers and Amazing Horse as much about his musical talent as his animation skills. Electropop outfit Savlonic are a slightly more serious affair- the lyrics are still funny, but the music itself is legitimate. And of course, the videos are awesome.
Following the success of videos such as Tiny Japanese Girl and Wandering Eye, the band kickstarted their first full album Red. Now in 2016, they're back trying to raise funds to launch their second album - Neon-, and create at least one animated music video.
They are looking to raise £30,000 by May 1st to launch the album with one video included. If they hit the target, any additional money raised will be put into producing additional videos- with the ultimate dream being to create a video for every track.
The Rewards include a digital download, CD and Vinyl editions, artbooks, and at the top end, the opportunity to have your likeness feature in the video.
