Guillermo del Toro Giving Masterclass at Annecy Festival, 'Trollhunters' First Look

More details continue to emerge about this year's forthcoming Annecy Festival. The latest announcement is that acclaimed film-maker Guillermo del Toro is to give a Masterclass as part of the event. Del Toro is best known as a director, but has also worked as a producer, screenwriter and author and also has been involved in animation. Having previously involved in a number of DreamWorks Animation's recent theatrical outings and The Book Of Life, GDT is now creating his first animated TV series, in the form of DreamWorks's Trollhunters.

Lucky attendees will get their first look at the new series, which is due to premiere globally on Netflix before the year is out. The class will also feature a look back at his career to date.


Accompanying the announcement, we've been treated to a first-look image at the series- which you can see at the top of the post. This is very much a teaser concept image, but it gives as an indicator to the look of the show- and the designs of the trolls themselves. At this point though it's not clear how the series will be animated- considering that many of DWA's recent TV series have gone the 2D route. However, it seems that this will probably one of their bigger shows and is therefore we feel is quite likely to go full-CG.

According to Annecy's announcement the show "will unleash a new, fantastical world wrapped around the residents of the fictional suburb of Arcadia who make a startling discovery that the world beneath their hometown is as vast and mind-blowing as anything on the surface." We can't wait to get to see more from this show soon.  With this alongside the new Voltron, DWA's TV output seems to be really stepping up a gear this year.
