The LEGO Batman Movie Trailer Swoops in

Arriving just days after the first plot details landed, and just before Batman V Superman: Dawn Of Justice opened to almost universally poor reviews (who didn't see that one coming?) Lego Batman is here to restore your faith in the Dark Knight. The first teaser for the 2017 Lego Movie spin-off show's Will Arnett's take on the Batman in his natural habitat (habit-bat?) for the first time.

Not only do we get out first look at the Lego Batcave and Lego Gotham, but we also get to see that the film is likely to get plenty out of mileage of seeing the caped crusader involved in domestic activities- as shown by his struggles working a humble microwave.

The big thrill is seeing this particular incarnation on the screen again, so unsurprisingly this first teaser is firmly centred on him. There remains a question-mark over whether the undisputed best thing about The Lego Movie will remain as funny for a whole film on his own, or whether the joke will wear thin. On the evidence of this excellent first teaser though, we're remaining optimistic.

There's a few flashes of action as well, with one shot apparently confirming that Superman (voiced by Channing Tatum) and Wonder Woman (Colbie Smulders) will make an appearance alongside other Justice League members, including Cyborg and The Flash. How big a part they will play (and whether they will be joined by other well-known characters) we'll just have to wait to see. After all, if there's ever a chance for us to see DC characters and Marvel characters on the screen together, this is probably it. It's a bit of a long shot, we know, but Lego has the rights to both... so we can dream, right?

Chris McKay is in the director's chair this time around, with Lego Movie directors Phil Lord and Chris Miller returning as producers. Check out the best Bat-thing you'll see this week (probably) below. The film opens in February 2017.

In the irreverent spirit of fun that made “The LEGO® Movie” a worldwide phenomenon, the self-described leading man of that ensemble – LEGO Batman – stars in his own big-screen adventure. But there are big changes brewing in Gotham, and if he wants to save the city from The Joker’s hostile takeover, Batman may have to drop the lone vigilante thing, try to work with others and maybe, just maybe, learn to lighten up -
