Leeds Young Film Festival Hosts 'When Marnie Was There', 'Boy and The Beast' and more
With the Easter school holidays about to kick off in the UK, The Leeds Young Film Festival (LYFF) is to host a wide variety of screenings and events for young people and families. Even if you don't have any small people of your own to take though, the selection of animation screening at the festival is pretty damn impressive by any standards. It includes a number of films that have rarely been screened in the United Kingdom before such as Kahlili Gibran's The Prophet, Mune and April and The Extraordinary World. Studio Ghibli's When Marnie Was There and Mamoru Hosoda's Boy and The Beast will also screen, ahead of their wider UK releases- expected later this year.
As well as these newer films, LYFF will also be screening older favourites, ranging from more recent favourites Shaun The Sheep and Song Of The Sea, to classics like Finding Nemo and The Lion King. A whole range of events will also take place, allowing kids to learn about the process of animation of all kinds, with workshops being held for stop-motion and CG techniques. Skwigly will also be hosting a family friendly Big Animation Quiz and ASIFA will host a 24-hour animation challenge.
The festival kicks off on Thursday, March 24th with a screening of Disney's Zootropolis (aka Zootopia) and runs through until March 31st (with The Prophet the closing screening).
You can check out the full programme including all the workshops on the festival's website, or see the line-up of animated (or related) screenings below. All dates are in March.
