"Don't Mess With The Monkey": New 'Kubo And The Two Strings' Trailer Arrives
2016 Marks the 10th Anniversary of LAIKA Studios- and will see the release of their fourth feature in Kubo And The Two Strings. And everything we've seen before leads us to believe this could well be their best yet. This hasn't changed a bit with the release of the latest trailer.
If the first two trailers were all about atmosphere and showing us some stunning visuals, this third preview actually centres on the actual story. The trailer starts by introducing hero Kubo, living alone with his mother in feudal Japan. We all know that can't last and Kubo is soon somehow separated from his mother (although we've probably all seen enough animated movies to guess just how) and sent off into a frightening world full of magic, strange creatures, and spirits.
Told that the only way to protect himself is to find his late father's armour, Kubo's quest sees him team up with Charlize Theron's mystical monkey and Matthew McConaughey's Beetle along the way. In all honesty, we didn't need another trailer to convince us to watch this, and if you prefer to know as little as possible, you may want to give this one a miss. Still though, this gives us a much closer look at the world LAIKA are building, and our excitement can only grow,
After the epic feel of the previous trailers, this does hint at a much lighter tone for much of the film. Although still featuring effectively creepy sequences and some astonishing imagery, there's also much more humour and light-heartedness this time around.
Kubo and The Two Strings is the directorial debut of LAIKA founder Travis Knight and will be released in cinemas in the US this August, with the UK release following in September. Check out the third trailer below.
