Edgar Wright To Co-Write and Direct 'Shadows' for DreamWorks Animation
Me and My Shadow is a project that has been in development at DreamWorks Animation for some time now. However, following the recent restructuring and scaling back at the studio, it had seemingly dropped off the schedule entirely. Which was a great shame for those who thought it looked to be among the most interesting of DWA's films.
Now it's apparently back in play, but this time in a new form with a whole new approach and creative team. It's been revealed that none other than Edgar Wright has signed on to direct and co-write the new film. A very exciting development indeed.
For anyone who might not know, Wright is the British director behind Shaun Of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and Scott Pilgrim. This will be his first animated movie as director, although he is currently working on a live-action/animation hybrid Fortunately The Milk, based on a children's book by Neil Gaiman. Wright has a very singular visual style so it will be fascinating to see how this translates to animation.
The script will be co-written by David Walliams, the writer and actor best known for Little Britain- but who has more recently had considerable success as a children's author.
The original version of the film was developed by Kung Fu Panda 3 co-director Allesandro Carloni, before it was put on indefinite hold. The new film is apparently not a straight revamping of the original Me and My Shadow, but in actual fact a fresh idea cooked up by Wright based on the same basic concept.
The new film has not got a release date -or in fact, a title- as yet. But you can be sure we'll be keeping a close eye on this one.
