Kickstart This: The Animation Show of Shows

For the Past 16 years Ron Diamond has been hosting 'The Animation Show Of Shows' in LA, showcasing the best in animated short films. Diamond searches for the best animated shorts from film-makers and students from across the globe, and gives them a chance to be shown on a big screen as part of a special cinema event.

Diamond has now set up a non-profit organisation to be able to expand the mission of Show Of Shows and bring it to an even bigger audience. Having already had secured support from studios including Pixar, Disney, DreamWorks and Blue Sky, he now needs help to make it happen- which is where the Kickstarter comes in.

Much more ambitious than just the usual event, Diamond hopes to raise $100,000 to help raise the profile of the animated short as an artform. The new non-profit plans to take the Show Of Shows on the road to show film fans across the US what these talented animators have to offer. What's more, the selected shorts will be screened in a qualifying run in LA to allow them to be nominated for an Academy Award.

Beyond the Show of Shows itself, the organisation hopes to put the spotlight on certain featured animators, with Diamond making short documentaries or profiles on the filmmakers themselves. They also aim to seek out older shorts in need of restoration, and help them to be seen as the filmmakers intended. The first short selected is a 1964 film called Hangman.

The campaign runs until July 3rd and pledge levels start at $10- which will get you a chance to see the finished restored short- and range up to an eye-watering $10,000 for a private screening. Head over to the campaign page now for more details or to contribute.
