Lord and Miller Are Working On A Spider-Man Animated Movie
Last year Sony Pictures were infamously the victim of a massive email hack. We decided (for ethical reasons) not to run any stories based on leaked information. Other sites read the reports though, and one thing that was pretty clear was that following The Amazing Spider-Man 2 the studio were struggling with what to do with the famous web-slinger. Ultimately this led to the decision to enter a deal with Marvel Studios who will be launching the new live-action franchise. However, it's now been revealed that Spidey will also be swinging back onto screens in a different form- his own animated movie.
As revealed at Cinema Con the project will be masterminded by The Lego Movie's Phil Lord and Chris Miller. The switch to the new medium will allow them a lot of freedom with the character, as it will exist separate from the Marvel Cinematic Universe version of the character. And as Lord and Miller have yet to put a foot wrong, there's a lot of reason to be excited about this.
Notably, Lord and Miller have been signed on to write the treatment and act as producers. Where possibly alarm bells sound is that they haven't been confirmed to direct, or even write the script. Still, we'd like to think that the duo will do their best to hire talented people, even if they've got too much on their plate to be too heavily involved themselves.
The movie is due to hit cinemas in July 2018
