Frozen Team Return for 'Frozen Fever' Short in 2015.
Since it's record breaking success it's been not a question of if Disney's Frozen would get a sequel but when. Refreshingly though, the Studio seems to be resisting the temptation to rush it, and not just make it for the sake of it. Instead, they have spoken of only making it if the right story comes along. Last night Disney-owned network ABC aired a special named The Story of Frozen: Making a Disney Animated Classic in the US. They used the occasion to announce that Anna and Elsa would actually be returning to the big screen as early as 2015- just not in the form you might think.
Frozen Fever will see Anna, Elsa, Kristoff and Olaf return in a short film. The plot will revolve around Anna's upcoming birthday celebration. All the principal staff are returning, with original director's Jennifer Lee and Chris Buck returning, as well as the voice cast. It will also feature a brand new song written by original musical duo Robert Lopez and Kristen Anderson-Lopez.
The short will be initially released theatrically, playing before another Disney release sometime next Spring. What film it will play before it still to be confirmed (maybe Disney's live-action Cinderella adaptation?). Presumably, it will later be available for home release in some form too. Based on past form it will probably be a special feature on the DVD and Blu-ray of the film it played before in cinemas, as well as being available separately on platforms such as iTunes and Google Play.
This seems like a smart idea to us- and it's a strategy that's served the Toy Story franchise well post Toy Story 3. It's a nice way to revisit the characters without rushing out a sequel just for the money. What do you think? Are you excited to return to Arendelle?
