LA's 'Animation Is Film' Festival Features 'The Breadwinner', 'Lu Over The Wall' and More
Earlier this year came the surprise announcement of the first edition of a new animated film festival in Los Angeles. Animation Is Film is intended to bring an Annecy Style festival to the States and is a collaboration between Annecy International, GKIDS Films and Variety. The first details have now arrived.
The festival will take place October 20- 22, 2017 at TCL Chinese 6 Theater in Hollywood. The festival will feature a selection of animated features from around the world and will feature both Juried and Audience awards. It will also feature filmmaker Q&As, special events and receptions.
The initial line-up of films screening in competition has been revealed (with more to be announced):
• The Big Bad Fox and Other Tales (US premiere)
• Big Fish and Begonia ( North American premiere)
• Birdboy: The Forgotten Children
• The Breadwinner (US premiere)
• Lu Over The Wall (North American premiere)
• Mary And The Witch's Flower (North American premiere)
• Tehran Taboo (North American premiere)
• Zombillenium (North American premiere)
The initial line-up of Jury members has also been announced with more to follow:
• Peter Debruge (Chief Film Critic, Variety, Jury Chair)
• Allison Abbate ( EVP Theatrical Animation, Warner Brothers Pictures,)
• Bonnie Arnold ( DreamWorks Animation, Producer -Toy Story, How to Train Your Dragon)
• Jorge R. Gutiérrez (Director Book of Life)
• Charles Solomon (Film Critic and Historian)
• Mable Tam (Head film buyer, Landmark Cinemas)
