FLCL Sequel Details Emerge, Coming in 2018
One of the most surprising announcements of recent years was that FLCL (AKA Fooly Cooly) would be getting a sequel. We'd heard nothing since then, but details were set to be revealed at Production IG's Anime Expo Panel. Now that panel has taken place, and those details are here.
We already knew that the deal had been struck for two seasons. Now we know that they will air on Adult Swim's Toonami as FLCL 2 and FLCL 3 in 2018. Each season will be six episodes and will air with a break in between. After the panel, it was revealed that they will be screening as two movies in Japan. The two seasons/movies will apparently have completely separate stories.
Original director Kazuya Tsurumaki is returning as series supervisor, while Katsuyuki Motohiro (Psycho Pass) will be serving as chief director. The screenplay is being penned by newcomer Hideto Iwai. Original character designer Yoshiyuki Sadamoto will be returning, as will rock band The Pillows, who will be providing music for the new seasons.
