'Miss Hokusai' US Trailer and Initial Screenings Revealed
Miss Hokusai has wowed critics and festival audiences around the world, picking up four awards at the 2015 Fantasia Festival alone,- including the coveted Satoshi Kon Award for best animated feature- and another at The Asia Pacific Screen Award. It was also nominated for both a Japanese Academy Award and the Cristal for Best Feature at the Annecy International Festival. Now thanks to the good folks GKIDS, it will be making it's way to North American Audiences later this year.
Director Keiichi Hara's acclaimed animated feature is an animated biography/coming-of-age based on a fictionalised version of the life of the real-life figure O-Ei. O-Ei- the Miss Hokusai of the title, was the daughter of the renowned Japanese artist Katsushika Hokusai- who is best known for the iconic painting The Wave.
Working as an assistant for her famous father, the feisty young woman is actually an accomplished artist in her own right, and Production I.G's film (adapted from the manga named Sarusuberi) is a wonderful example of the true potential of adult animation.
Miss Hokusai will open in New York and LA on October 14th, expanding to other locations across the United States and Canada from October 21st 2016. GKIDS have released a beautiful new trailer to celebrate the US release which you can see below. The film will play in both original original language and dubbed versions. The film will be also be released in the United Kingdom on Blu-ray and DVD (subtitled only) via Anime Limited (date TBC).
