Anime Expo Round-Up: Legend Of The Galactic Heroes, One Punch Man and More
Every July the annual convention Anime Expo takes place in LA, as fans and industry folk alike gather to celebrate the art of Japanese animation. It's also where a big part of the plans for the coming months for the US anime and manga related companies are revealed, via their panels. With the 2015 event currently underway, here's a round-up of some of the biggest stories to emerge from the con so far.
- Viz Media have announced they will be releasing the Naruto Shippuden sequel movie Boruto The Movie- which takes place after the events of the manga and both K Project's movie spin-off Missing Kings and the second season Return of Kings. They will also be streaming the hotly-anticipated forthcoming anime adaptation of the Shonen Jump USA hit One Punch Man from October, and releasing the series Death Note on Blu-ray.
- Sentai Filmworks surprised everyone by announcing they have acquired the sprawling (100+ episode) sci-fi epic Legend Of The Galactic Heroes. This series has been something of a holy grail for old-school anime fans for many years (Viz's publishing wing has also acquired the original novels). They will also be releasing both seasons of the dark Higurashi (When They Cry). They've also picked up the rights to a number of shows set to air this summer: Ushio and Tora, Gate, School-Live!, Wakaba Girl, To- Love-Ru Trouble Darkness 2nd, and Aoharu X Machinegun
- The sci-fi show Parasyte: The Maxim will air on Toonami from October.
