'The Prophet' US Release Set for August.
Kahlil Gibran's The Prophet is an undeniably exciting project for any true animation connoisseur, featuring contributions from some of the animation world's biggest talents. Ranging from established legends such as Lion King director Roger Allers (who is overall director) and Bill Plympton to current superstars such as Tomm Moore and Nina Paley. The film has previously been announced for US release by animation specialists GKIDS for summer 2015 release.
It's now been confirmed the film will open August 7th, initially in New York and LA, before opening wide on the 14th.
Adapted from Gibran's 1923 book of the same name, the movie features numerous segments based on the author's original poems. Each "chapter" is directed by a different director, allowing a wide variety of different styles and techniques. Rather than being a full-on anthology piece though, they are all connected by a narrative written and directed by Allers.
The Prophet features an all-star cast including Salma Hayek (who also acted as producer), Liam Neeson, Alfred Molina and Quvenzhané Wallis.
More details on the project here.
