Attack On Titan Season 2 Announced for 2016
In both anime and manga forms Attack On Titan has been something of a juggernaut, becoming one of the biggest new franchises of the twenty-first century. And with good reason- it's an outrageously entertaining series. Thanks to its huge success, a second season of the anime seemed inevitable, but no news had yet emerged. The 26 episode first season is being edited into two compilation movies (a common tactic with hit anime) and the first of them opened in Japan last weekend. At the launch event for the first film (titled AoT: Crimson Bow and Arrow) the first official confirmation came that Attack On Titan Season 2 is indeed on its way.
The only surprising detail is that it won't air until 2016. It's promising that they haven't rushed it, meaning it will hopefully keep up to the standard of the first season, but can you imagine a hit US show with a three-year gap between seasons? Other than that, no further details have been announced- but there's plenty of time for that. In the meantime the second compilation movie Wings of Freedom will open in Japan in June 2015, with the two-part live-action movie due to hit next summer.
Attack On Titan :Season One is available now on Blu-ray and DVD in North America from FUNimation and in the UK from Manga Entertainment.
